The district of Namysłów includes the municipalities of Namysłów, Domaszowice, Świerczów, Pokój and Wilków, all located in the norther part of the Stobrawa Recreation and Rehabilitation Zone, north of the Stobrawa Landscape Park. The region offers interesting architectural monuments, both sacred and secular, as well as beautiful landscapes with plenty of leisure options.
The key attractions of the area are the monumental churches with soaring steeples and small, wooden churches. It is definitely worth taking the time to travel the Namysłów region to find those jewels scattered across the land.
We are also recommending the churches in Świerczów and Dąbrowa, and the one in Strzelce which is surrounded by a number of interesting shrines. Other historic temples of note include the churches in Włochy, Bukowie, Pągów, Gręboszów and Biestrzykowice. In Smogorzów, make sure to take a closer look at the sophisticated structure of the local church and its soaring steeple, and in Ligota Książęca visit the church of the Assumption of Mary which has been designated as a Marian sanctuary of the Archdiocese of Wroclaw. You should also visit the town of Miejsce, which has a historic church and a Jewish cemetery, and Pokój with an interesting Protestant temple.
Namysłów itself also offers a number of monumental historic churches, among the 15th-century church of SS Peter and Paul with a large courtyard, a statue of St John of Nepomuk and a number of valuable altars, and the church of St Francis of Assisi and St Peter of Alcantara with the former Franciscan monastery.
For exquisite wooden churches, head to Michalice, right next to Lake Michalickie, and to Smarchowice Śląskie and Woskowice Małe. The church in Baldwinowice, hidden in a forest, will also make an interesting stop on your itinerary.
Other notable sacred historic objects in the region are the roadside shrines which you can find e.g. at the church in Strzelce or near the church in Włochy. Some of the shrines stand among the farm fields, like the one in Siemysłów. In the shrine in Domaszowice, you can see the picture of Our Lady of Piekary. As you travel across the region, make sure to stop in Dziedzice and Wielołęka which also offer a number of architectural jewels symbolising the simple folk faith. In Polkowskie, you can see an interesting bell tower.
Palace and castle lovers should head to Woskowice Małe where you can see a beautiful palace from the turn of the 18th and 19th century which now serves as a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre. A similar palace can be found in Ziemiełowice, but this one is privately owned and closed to visitors.
History enthusiasts should definitely spend some time in Namysłów which has plenty of fascinating historic sites, such as the town walls which used to defend the town against enemy troops. Two sections of the walls, located in Piastowska and Staszica streets, have been recently renovated. Close to the walls, you will find the Krakow Gate (Brama Krakowska) which offers a magnificent view of the area. Another must-see object in Namysłów is the town hall, which used to be a castle and the most important building in the town, and is now located on the premises of Namysłów Brewery.
Aside from a variety of historic objects and architectural jewels, the Namysłów land also offers beautiful landscapes, including rolling fields, majestic forests and plenty of ponds, with numerous hiking and cycling routes winding among them and inviting you to explore this amazing region.
