Church of the Immaculate Conception of Blessed Virgin Mary in Namysłów

Add to the planner

The church in Staromiejska Street is believed to be the oldest church in Namysłów. It is first mentioned in a document from 1286 which names priest Dietrich from Altstadt. This source also suggests that the church served as the seat of the parish. It is possible that the church is even older as records from 1233 mention a church and a chaplain named Giles.

The current building has a distinctly Gothic style and is built with brick and stone. Inside, the central element is the Baroque main altar from the second half of the 17th century, and the Late Gothic 15th-century statue of Madonna with Child. There is also an interesting wooden gallery from 1600. During the Reformation, the church was taken over by the Protestant community and did not return to the Catholics until 1645. Originally dedicated to All Saints, the church received its current invocation in the mid-19th century, when Pope Pius IX announced the dogmatical doctrine of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
