Statue of St John of Nepomuk

Add to the planner

The Late Baroque statue of St John of Nepomuk, dated to 1730, is located on the southern side of the square at the church of SS Peter and Paul in Namysłów. Until World War II, the statue stood on the Town Square, close to the Town Hall. Funded by councilman Andrzej Wachsmann, the figure stands on an ornamental plinth which has a small alcove for a candle of the dead. Below the alcove, there is a relief depicting a scene of St John being thrown from Charles Bridge in Prague into the Vltava. On the corners of the plinth, there are sculptures of two angels.

The church of SS Peter and Paul has two other images of St John of Nepomuk: one on top of the main gate to the church, and another one inside; the latter shows a slightly different image of the saint than usual, i.e. without the palm and the cross.
